Do patrols that are 'Fearless' or 'Leadershipless' have to make the 50% bottle roll?

In a word... Yes! All patrols make the test!

The 50% bottle roll is a mechanism to bring the game to a close, when you get to this point the odds are you will have already taken a pasting so get out.

Troops that are Fearless, Space Wolves for example, are not stupid. A patrol has very specific orders which would not usually include engage the enemy at all costs. The very nature of a marine's training would mean that they would have masses of battlefield experience and would know when to withdraw. A chapter has less than a thousand active troops and would not wish to lose men unnecessarily.

A force being led by a Tau Ethereal has to make the test! (Not that any self respecting Ethereal would be leading a patrol, that is way too gamey for me!)

A Leadershipless patrol, Ork Speed Freeks all on buggies and Traks, have to take the test also. If the troop types have no Ld characteristic you should use the standard Ld for that race, in this case an Ork's Ld is 7.
