I haven't taken an HQ choice, who should lead my patrol? A patrol does not have to be led by a senior officer, in fact in most cases, this would definitely be the case. A patrol without an HQ choice is led by the squad leader with the highest leadership. If two figures have the same leadership then the player chooses which is the commander, and only this model may give leader benefits. Some codexes allow excellent patrol leaders. A Guard patrol could be led by a Lieutenant from a platoon command squad. Space Marine patrols are suitably led by veteran sergeants, etc.
