The whole patrol. One unit of eight Chaos Marines armed with bolters and a heavy bolter.  A second unit of Chaos Marines all armed with close combat weapons and bolt pistols led by an Aspiring Champion with a power fist.  The whole patrol is led by a Chaos Marine Lieutenant armed with a power weapon.

The Alpha Legion lieutenant is an expensive model in such a small army but he's very powerful, although not so much that he dominates games on his own.  I've given him the veteran skills of Infiltrate and Furious Charge. Alpha Legion characters get Infiltrate for a mere 5 points and I wanted to give him the skill to really theme the force as an Alpha Legion patrol.  Furious Charge is such an amazingly useful skill for Chaos characters that it had to be taken - getting that first attack in, especially with the extra strength conferred by the skill, can be devastating to enemy forces.  He's armed with a bolt pistol and a master-crafted power weapon and, to finish him off, he's also carrys frag grenades and melta-bombs.  He's definitely prepared for all eventualities!

The first squad of Alpha Legion marines have been armed so they can assist the Lieutenant in assaulting the enemy; all are sporting close combat weapons and bolt pistols.  The Aspiring Champion has been given a power fist with the hope that he can finish off any enemy models that the Lieutenant fails to kill.  Like the Lieutenant, the whole unit has been given Infiltrate, Furious Charge and frag grenades.

The second and final unit of Alpha Legion Chaos Marines are used as a solid fire base; These guys are armed with bolters and a heavy bolter.

The way I use the force is to put the bolter and heavy bolter team in cover where they can get a good view of the battlefield.  The assault unit and the Lieutenant are Infiltrated forward through any available cover.  I need to be careful judging the distance of the unit from the enemy as I need to ensure they get to assault rather than the recipients of an assault - it's such a waste of points on the Furious Charge skills if they don't!  When this unit assault they're lethal - the Lieutenant gets 5 x S5 attacks with a power weapon with a reroll on failed hits... Anyone tough enough to survive that then gets hit with 21 x S4 attacks from the Chaos Marines.  If anyone still survive that they face 3 x S9 attacks from the Aspiring Champion!  If they still cling onto life after suffering that, they deserve to win the game!
